On Monday, July 31, U.S. SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman, the voice in President Biden’s Cabinet for America’s 33 million small businesses, visited New York City to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the SBA.

She visited Renaissance client Sanmiwago, a Taiwanese dumpling spot that graduated from the Mott Street Eatery food court into its own sleek brick-and-mortar location nearby. Renaissance provided them with technical assistance and an SBA Microloan in November 2022.

Jeffrey Liu is the president and majority owner of ICook Bowery Inc, dba Sanmiwago, a restaurant based in Chinatown, Manhattan. Mr. Liu was born in China, came to the United States at age 19, and has worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years. His first business, also located in Chinatown, was listed as a Top 10 restaurant by the New York Times. He opened Sanmiwago, his newest restaurant, in 2022.

Administrator Guzman visited with local small business owners to highlight how President Biden’s Investing in America agenda has led to record job growth and a historic small business boom, with entrepreneurs applying to start 12.2 million new small businesses during President Biden’s first 30 months in office – including more than 700,000 in New York alone.

The group ended the NYC anniversary tour ringing the NY Stock Exchange closing bell with NY Congressman Jerry Nadler and NY Congresswoman Nydia M. Velazquez.
